"Jhon Cariosa, Age 7 - Social Studies Assignment of January 2nd, 2159 AD

My report is on the Roadkings. A Roadking is a bipedal bionic frame designed to change so that it can move faster by being like a car or a tank, and there are lots of uses for them. I learned today that the first rroadkings were designed to be "mobile weapons platform drones" in urban wars, to go where tanks and other big military vehicles couldn't drive by switching to walk around. now you can use Roadkings for all kinds of jobs. My dad says Roadkings make it so he can't get work as a crane operator, and they should be required to only be used in a hazardous envirronment.

A Roadking is controlled y an "operator", and is made only for that operator. If you tried to control a Roadking that wasn't made for you, it wouldn't work right. It would be like wearing thw wrong contacts, wrong shoes, wrong clothing, and trying to walk backwards. A roadking can see all around it, but the image doesn't go too far. So the operator can't do stuff like shoot guns with the Roadking, and also only soldiers can use guns, so only a soldier with a Roadking could do that, anyway.

I think Roadkings are neat, but they are too big. I would want one half as big, that would be about two meters.

B-: Accurate, but overly simplistic and containing spelling errors. Subject is lagging behind peers. Assessment program reccommends extension of individual course load by 2.5 weeks, and an increase in duration and frequency of reading breaks to Level 2b to improve vocabulary."

Hi, sweetheart! Sorry it's been so long since the last message, they've had me working really hard on REDACTED. It's hard to believe what advancements we've been making! To think, it's been almost a century and a half since the Kardashev scale was devised, and we're already REDACTED. If things go right, REDACTED's theory will mean nearly unlimited clean power available at almost negligible cost... imagine that! No need to worry about fuel, or access to power sources. People anywhere in the world will be able to REDACTED.

I'll be home soon.

"It has been almost forty years since the World Energy War, and today, we look back on some of the changes that have taken place. This very continent seems sundered in comparison to those days; the scars of war have turned into borders, and what were once states and provinces in the great nations of Canada and the USA are now splintered, warring. The poor are beyond impoverished, and the wealthy live in a state of obscene excess where troubles cannot reach them. Some claim that this division allows for freedom- freedom to suffer? Freedom to be inequal, for the few to hold sway over the many? Our opponents in the western provinces and nation-states call us Federalists, saying that we mean to impose tyrannical governance over them all; I say here, now and always, that we mean to remove the tyrants, and restore equality as a unified nation! I reach out to my fellow leaders in the far west and south, to the nations of Cascadia, Greater Austin, and the Republic of Gulf States, to come together with us, and to work to restore peace, unity, and equality!"
--Acting President of the Delaware Union, Sammy Mhin, 24 minutes prior to his assassination by mercenaries believed to be in the employ of the Provincial Government of Buffalo
Some brief snippets of the world in which Roadkings are used; the North American continent is fractured into small nation-states. Movement from one allied nation to another is precarious, and old roads are watched by bands of mercenaries, thugs, and military patrols from enemy states. Roadkings are one of the few reliable defenses, particularly with the military dictatorships of the interior hoarding all other resources....

This universe sure came out of left field, and I think I'm in love with it.
